Joseph A. Curtatone is mayor of Somerville, Mass. A former alderman and an attorney, he began his sixth term as mayor in January 2014.
As mayor, Curtatone has implemented a wide range of reforms and programs that have earned Somerville recognition from regional and national organizations, including the designation by Boston Globe magazine of Somerville as "the best-run city in Massachusetts." Delegations from other Massachusetts communities and from cities as far away as Ireland and South Korea regularly visit Somerville for briefings on the city’s SomerStat program, a data-driven performance-management system modeled on Baltimore’s CitiStat initiative.
Curtatone has served as president of the Massachusetts Mayor’s Association and as a member of the board of directors of the National League of Cities. He earned his law degree from the New England School of Law in 1994 and a mid-career master's degree in public administration from the Harvard Kennedy School in 2011.
