Allison Plyer

Allison Plyer is chief demographer at The Data Center, which gathers and analyzes data on Southeast Louisiana with the mission of building prosperous, inclusive and sustainable communities. She was co-editor of the book Resilience and Opportunity: Lessons from the U.S. Gulf Coast after Katrina and Rita, published in 2011, and author of the New Orleans Index series developed in collaboration with the Brookings Institution to track the region's recovery from Hurricane Katrina.

Plyer joined The Data Center in 2001 with eight years of experience developing the management capacity of nonprofit and micro–enterprise organizations in New Orleans, the San Francisco Bay Area and Guatemala. She also has almost a decade of experience in the for–profit sector as a marketing and data-mining consultant to large and small companies.

Plyer received her doctorate in science from Tulane University and her MBA in marketing and organizational behavior from Northwestern University.
