Homeownership Statistics for Metro Areas

Homeownership rates have declined in nearly every metro area.

The national homeownership rate for the first quarter of 2015 fell below 64 percent, the lowest level in about two decades.

Homeownership rates declined in all but one of the nation’s 100 largest metro areas between 2006 and 2013. The Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, Nevada, and Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, Ariz., metro areas, along with others experiencing large numbers of foreclosures, have experienced some of the largest reductions in homeownership nationally.
