Contributor

Christi Branscom is the commissioner of the Tennessee Department of General Services. She oversees all divisions within DGS, including central procurement; document services; real estate asset management and capital project development; and management of vehicles and other equipment.

Before joining DGS, Brancom served in the Knoxville city administration, initally as senior director of public works and later as deputy to the mayor and chief operating officer. Previously she served as chief operating officer, general counsel and principal over a 25-year career at Partners Development, and in 2003 established Grace Construction.

Branscom holds a law degree from the University of Memphis and a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Tennessee. She was named recently by the National Association of State Chief Administrators as one of five new female state chief administrators to watch.

COVID-19 has accelerated government's move to new workplace arrangements. A Tennessee program that has significantly cut the state's office space needs shows the way to build on those gains.
