McKinley L. Price is the mayor of Newport News, Va., and president of the African American Mayors Association. A native of Newport News, in 2010 he became the first African American to be elected as mayor of the city. Previously, he served for eight years on the Newport News School Board, serving as its chairman for two years, and was appointed to the Newport News City Council for a five-month period.

A practicing dentist, Price has received numerous honors and awards from professional associations, including being named Dentist of the Year by the Old Dominion Dental Society and being elected as the first black president of the Peninsula Dental Society.
