Regina LaBelle, J.D., is a Distinguished Scholar and director of the Addiction and Public Policy Initiative at the O’Neill Institute at Georgetown University Law Center. She also founded, directs and is an adjunct professor in the Master of Science in Addiction Policy and Practice program at Georgetown University’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.

Most recently, LaBelle was appointed by the Biden-Harris administration to the position of acting director in the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) in the Executive Office of the President. There, she developed the administration’s drug policy priorities, which included a historic focus on harm reduction services. She previously served in the Obama administration as ONDCP chief of staff, overseeing the agency’s overdose response and implementation of the National Drug Control Strategy.

Prior to her work in the federal government, LaBelle served as legal counsel to Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels. From 1998 to 2005, she was an adjunct professor of policy and ethics at the Seattle University Institute for Policy Studies.

Billions of dollars will soon begin to flow to state, local and tribal governments. It should be used in ways that reflect each community's needs, and we need systems of accountability.
The litigation against the drug companies could provide substantial funding. Spending the money wisely is key.
