Rod Gould retired in 2015 as city manager of Santa Monica, Calif., culminating a 29-year public-management career in which he also served as city manager of three other California cities. Gould currently is a member of the boards of Pepperdine University's Davenport Institute for Public Engagement and Civic Leadership and the Institute for Local Government.
Gould has served as vice president of the International City/County Management Association and on the board of the League of California Cities, and he has taught at the University of Southern California's Price School of Public Policy, San Francisco State University and California State University at Long Beach. He received his undergraduate degree in political science and economics from Yale University and his graduate degree in public management and finance from Harvard University.
