Steve Nicholas is vice president of the U.S. Program at the Institute for Sustainable Communities. In addition to launching the U.S. Program, he created the Sustainable Communities Leadership Academy, which has served more than 500 U.S. communities.
Before joining ISC, Nicholas was director of the Seattle Office of Sustainability & Environment for eight years, leading several urban sustainability efforts including the development and implementation of the Seattle Climate Protection Initiative, winner of a 2007 Innovations in American Government Award. He co-authored Seattle’s first-ever climate action plan as well as the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.
Nicholas was a co-author of "The Guide to Greening Cities," a book published in 2013. He holds a master's degree in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.
