The approximate number of additional school districts that will now have free meals for all enrolled students after a change by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to expand the free meal program. Now at schools where 25 percent of families participate in income-based public benefits, the federal government will cover the cost of free meals for all enrolled students, whereas previously the threshold was 40 percent. The new rule will expand to more than 5 million additional students.
