The amount that manufacturers could be fined if they violate the nation’s new official ban on incandescent light bulbs that begins on Aug. 1. The new rule will make it illegal for stores to sell the bulbs and for companies to manufacture them; it will not be illegal to own incandescent bulbs. LED lights provide more light and use 75 percent less energy and last 25 times longer.
