The number of days, as of Sept. 5, that the coastline along San Diego’s Imperial Beach area has been closed due to sewage pollution flowing across the border from Mexico.
In the past five years, more than 100 billion gallons of contaminated sewage have flowed from the Tijuana River into the Pacific. The poor water quality along the Imperial Beach coastline has been linked to 34,000 annual illnesses.
