The top salary for a police officer in the Dallas suburb of Plano, a number advertised on recruiting billboards the city has put up in Texas and Oklahoma that have attracted 386 applicants and resulted in 30 hires.
Nationwide in 2023, the average annual wage for police and sheriff’s patrol officers was $76,550, about a 13 percent increase from 2019, according to Labor Department data.
