The estimated number of Florida children under 5 who went uncounted during the 2020 census.
They represent almost 10 percent of the total number of preschool-age children in the state This means Florida will likely receive less federal funding for programs such as Head Start than it’s entitled to. Nationwide, about 5.5 percent of children under 5 were missed, according to the Census Bureau. The lowest total was in Vermont, where 0.02 percent of uncounted young children was the equivalent of six kids.
