The number of death certificates of people who died in the U.S. last summer that mention the effects of excessive heat, the highest number in 45 years of records. Arizona accounted for nearly 38 percent of those deaths, with 875 reported. At least 645 people were killed by heat in Maricopa County, Ariz., alone.
