Experts predict the decrease to continue, leading to a possible $3-per-gallon average for the first time since 2021. The price per gallon for regular gasoline ranged from $4.59 in California, the state with the highest gas tax, to $2.93 in Mississippi, which has one of the lowest tax rates on fuel.
