The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is torn between trying to stop the spread and helping deer breeders who say the effort will put them out of business. A 2022 survey by Texas A&M University found that white-tailed deer hunters and the landowners who host hunters for a fee contribute $9.6 billion annually to the Texas economy.
