The number of calls to poison control centers across the U.S. between 2013 and 2022 for adolescents and young adults exposed to the hallucinogen psilocybin, which is found in "magic mushrooms." The number began to spike after the recreational drug was first decriminalized in Denver in 2019. In 2022, it more than tripled among adolescents and more than doubled among young adults compared to 2018, when the drug was uniformly illegal.
