The increase in state government hires in Maryland without college degrees. The state of Maryland loosened requirements for formal education in more than half of its 38,000 roles, helping state agencies grow the talent pool in a tight labor market, with the goal of “leaving no skilled worker behind.” There has been a 14 percent increase in the number of state employees hired overall.
