Average annual salary of women working for state and local governments in 2022, 28.9 percent less than their male counterparts.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 Current Population Survey, men in state and local governments earned an average of $68,845 during the same period. In a MissionSquare Research Institute survey of state and local workers aged 35 and under, 23 percent of women indicated that they felt very financially secure, compared to 43 percent of men surveyed.
