The worth in nuts that Hawaii’s 600-plus macadamia nut farmers produced in 2021, second only to seed farms that research genetically engineered corn. State lawmakers have proposed legislation to require consumer packages to disclose when they contain macadamia nuts from outside of Hawaii. This would take effect on Jan. 1, 2026 if it becomes law.
