The date when the Illinois Department of Early Childhood is scheduled to be fully operational. The state created the department this year. On Monday, Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker appointed Teresa Ramos as its first secretary. The department will oversee a variety of programs currently scattered across different agencies, including preschool, interventions for children with disabilities and day care licensing.
