Wisconsin’s New Legislative Maps in Effect for November Election

When residents head to the polls on Nov. 5, they will be voting under new legislative maps that are expected to create near-equal chances that either party will gain control of the Legislature.

New legislative maps across Wisconsin will have an impact on several districts and races in the Chippewa Valley when voters go to the polls Nov. 5.

The 2024 Election features new districts for the Wisconsin State Legislature, with all 99 Assembly districts and even-number Senate districts on the ballot this fall.

The Wisconsin State Legislature passed new state Assembly and Senate district maps submitted by Gov. Tony Evers in February, after the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down maps adopted in 2022.

The justices ruled the state's legislative maps were unconstitutional and ordered new maps to be drawn before the 2024 election.

The maps were approved by majority votes in both chambers of Wisconsin's state legislature Feb. 13. Gov. Tony Evers signed Senate Bill 488 into law, adopting the new Wisconsin legislative maps Feb. 19.

The new maps are expected to lead to near-equal chances that the Republican or Democratic parties will gain control of legislative majorities.
